Our partnership with the Drouin Cluster of Schools supports the transition process from our primary schools and includes a comprehensive orientation program. This ensures teachers understand our new students and can support them in feeling confident in their new school. We also build connections with local primary schools by our students visiting these schools to participate in various programs.
A coordinated Information Day and Evening for prospective students combined with the state wide Orientation Days in December provides students with an opportunity to familiarise themselves with the College. Additionally we have a program offering additional transition days for students needing a higher level of support.
We take the time necessary to know and understand our new students whether they are entering Year 7 or a higher level.

Starting Secondary School
One of the biggest transitions in a child’s life is moving from Primary to Secondary school. It can be a time full of fun, excitement and new experiences, but can also be challenging or worrying for some children. You can help by making sure your child is prepared and feels supported. When choosing a secondary school for your child, you will need to think about your family circumstances and needs, such as:
- How far do you want to travel and is the school reasonably close to home and/or work?
- Will the school be able to cater for your child’s needs and interests?
- What facilities do they offer and are you comfortable with the ‘feel’ of the school?
- Will the teachers and the school curriculum support all aspects of your child’s development, including social, emotional, physical and cognitive needs?
- Does the school’s policy on homework and discipline reflect your own values and expectations?
- Does the school work in partnership with families?
Each year, the department releases Year 6 to Year 7 placement information for schools and for parents/carers, with information packs available from the beginning of Term 2 for students commencing Year 7 the following year. These information packs, and other important information, can be found on Moving from primary to secondary school page of the Victorian Government website. See Enrolments for information on School Zones and Placement Policy.
